A Definition of Love

Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have, Love doesn't strut, doesn't have a swelled head, doesn't force itself on others, isn't always "me first", doesn't keep score of the sins of others, doesn't revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end. On march 28th, Lyf evening service, attendants received a card with this verse and space to write your own definition of love.

LYF Real Love Series: week one: by Nick Alex Jee

Yesterday, Febuary 21st 2010, at the LYF evening service, Richy Fisher spoke about "Real Love." He talked about our relationship with God. There are three main treads, or lessons of love that run through the Bible. The first one, God's love for us and our love for him. The second thread is the love that we have for each other. The third thread is our relationship with another person. This love and God's love last forever. Though, satan tries to mess up these threads. He strikes the weakest one, which effects the others.

Transform Conference- Dirty Jobs

On February 5-6 the Transform Conference was held, Its central theme was Mercy and Justice are "dirty jobs" that we have been called to do. The thing I loved about transform was it taught us (students) a way to understand and study the bible, during the first break up session, the leaders explained the concepts of precepts- all we needed to do was look into the bible and read, asking the questions who's speaking? What are they saying? Often times we go to conferences and sit and listen, which is not a bad thing but at Transform you had the opportunity to be as engaged as you desired.

Precepts Conference

On February 5th-7th LYF Student Ministry hosted its second annual precepts conference for teenagers.  This year's theme was called "Dirty Jobs" and focused on scriptures that dealt with subjects such as helping widows and orphans in distress.  During the conference, teens were given tools to study their bible using the inductive study bible. Many students walked away for the first time being confident that they can study the bible for themselves with the tools given at the conference.

Block Party Outreach

On Saturday Nov. 21st nearly 40+ students and adults volunteered most of their day to throw a block party for a local neighborhood near the sugar mill.  Students served food, hosted games and brought joy to the families that were there. This was a great opportunity where students got an opportunity to serve and be On_Mission.

Rio Bend Work Day

On Oct. 24th various high school students from lyf student ministry headed to rio bend for a day of labor and fun.  Rio Bend is currently a Christian foster community that our ministry has adopted.   Students did work projects around the grounds that consisted of landscaping and general clean up.  Towards the end of the day students had a cookout in the pool area and actually swam in the cold water.  Projects like this one serve as an opportunity for students to qualify for upcoming lyf mission projects.

Surge

This past weekend more than 130 middle school students and 20 leaders stayed up all night long for the famous middle school lockin surge.  The night started in the new gym with dodgeball, bball and volleyball and then proceeded to skate central for a great time of old fashioned roller skating.  Students then piled on the busses and headed to dave and busters to enjoy the buffett of unlimited food/drinks and spend hours playing video games and bowling.   Students had a great time and were able to build relationships with each other as well as the leaders.

Calling all middle school parents

Join us this Sunday Sept. 20th from 12:30pm-2pm in the LYF Center for lunch and a chance to find out information on how we can partner with you in your approach to discipling your children.  This meeting will be interactive and will allow you the opportunity to meet d_group leaders teachers and our staff.  We will talk about some upcoming events we will have this year and will spend some time talking about how you can be involved.  Don't miss this exciting lunch....

See You At The Pole

In three weeks you will have an opportunity to engage your school by coming together with friends and seeking God in prayer.  I can remember back to when I was in junior high and high school and being apart of see you at the pole.  For me it was a defining moment where I was able to see what other Christians at my school were really serious about following God and were not ashamed to make Him known.  One year when I was in high school no one was promoting or organizing the event for our campus so I decided I would do something.  I posted flyers and even brought in a port
