A Definition of Love

Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have, Love doesn't strut, doesn't have a swelled head, doesn't force itself on others, isn't always "me first", doesn't keep score of the sins of others, doesn't revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end. On march 28th, Lyf evening service, attendants received a card with this verse and space to write your own definition of love.

LYF Real Love Series: week one: by Nick Alex Jee

Yesterday, Febuary 21st 2010, at the LYF evening service, Richy Fisher spoke about "Real Love." He talked about our relationship with God. There are three main treads, or lessons of love that run through the Bible. The first one, God's love for us and our love for him. The second thread is the love that we have for each other. The third thread is our relationship with another person. This love and God's love last forever. Though, satan tries to mess up these threads. He strikes the weakest one, which effects the others.

Transform Conference- Dirty Jobs

On February 5-6 the Transform Conference was held, Its central theme was Mercy and Justice are "dirty jobs" that we have been called to do. The thing I loved about transform was it taught us (students) a way to understand and study the bible, during the first break up session, the leaders explained the concepts of precepts- all we needed to do was look into the bible and read, asking the questions who's speaking? What are they saying? Often times we go to conferences and sit and listen, which is not a bad thing but at Transform you had the opportunity to be as engaged as you desired.

Precepts Conference

On February 5th-7th LYF Student Ministry hosted its second annual precepts conference for teenagers.  This year's theme was called "Dirty Jobs" and focused on scriptures that dealt with subjects such as helping widows and orphans in distress.  During the conference, teens were given tools to study their bible using the inductive study bible. Many students walked away for the first time being confident that they can study the bible for themselves with the tools given at the conference.

Block Party Outreach

On Saturday Nov. 21st nearly 40+ students and adults volunteered most of their day to throw a block party for a local neighborhood near the sugar mill.  Students served food, hosted games and brought joy to the families that were there. This was a great opportunity where students got an opportunity to serve and be On_Mission.

Rio Bend Work Day

On Oct. 24th various high school students from lyf student ministry headed to rio bend for a day of labor and fun.  Rio Bend is currently a Christian foster community that our ministry has adopted.   Students did work projects around the grounds that consisted of landscaping and general clean up.  Towards the end of the day students had a cookout in the pool area and actually swam in the cold water.  Projects like this one serve as an opportunity for students to qualify for upcoming lyf mission projects.

Surge

This past weekend more than 130 middle school students and 20 leaders stayed up all night long for the famous middle school lockin surge.  The night started in the new gym with dodgeball, bball and volleyball and then proceeded to skate central for a great time of old fashioned roller skating.  Students then piled on the busses and headed to dave and busters to enjoy the buffett of unlimited food/drinks and spend hours playing video games and bowling.   Students had a great time and were able to build relationships with each other as well as the leaders.

See You At The Pole

In three weeks you will have an opportunity to engage your school by coming together with friends and seeking God in prayer.  I can remember back to when I was in junior high and high school and being apart of see you at the pole.  For me it was a defining moment where I was able to see what other Christians at my school were really serious about following God and were not ashamed to make Him known.  One year when I was in high school no one was promoting or organizing the event for our campus so I decided I would do something.  I posted flyers and even brought in a port

the Movement

This summer God has really been at work in so many ways in the LYF student ministry.  During lead 222 servant leadership many students had the opportunity to get uncomfortable and really reach out into the community.  Students hosted block parties, fixed up houses and learned how to be servant leaders.  At the end of the week many students felt the call to continue to grow in their faith and lead by following the example of Christ who humbled himself.  After lead222, several students traveled across the country to Mozambique, Africa.  While in Mozambique students co

Camp LYF | Day 4

Today is the fourth and final full day of camp.  Students finished their cardboard boats and will race them later tonight against other teams in the pool.  Aric Harding's band closed the night with a concert or praise and worship.

Camp LYF | Day 3

Today is the third day of camp. Students got the opportunity to get with their teams in the afternoon and began to work on building elaborate cardboard boats. These boats will be put into the pool on Tuesday for the famous Regatta (boat race) between teams were students actually race inside the boats. Later during the day Richy challenged students during the night session to get on their knees and pray before God to get their hearts ready for God to speak to them. Bo began the night presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ and explaining the need for cross to be the only bridge to God.

Camp LYF | Day 2

Today was the second day of camp.  Students started the day with early morning devotions and afterwards quickly began an incredible time of recreation.  During recreation students participated in relay races, water activities, and other team sports. Later in the afternoon students took advantage of the many free time options (pool, lake activities, climbing wall and the zipline).

Camp LYF | Day 1

Today is the first day of Camp LYF 2009.  More than 288+ students and 75+ adults have made their way to Camp Tejas for a five day journey to experience God together. As you can see in the picture everyone received their t-shirt and participated in a group picture.  Later during the first session Aric Harding from Sagemont led students in a time of worship and praise. Aric challenged students whether or not they knew the songs to really focus on God this week and praise Him from their hearts.

Camp LYF | the Movement

Camp is only two days away.  We are so excited for what God is going to do and has already done this summer through lead222, mozambique and other lyf events.  This year's theme is about being apart of something big, something bigger than ourselves.  It's about being apart of a movement of God and tapping into the power of the Holy Spirit.  Students will learn about the call to join the movement, the cause to the movement and the cost to the movement.

Mozambique Trip :: Entry 3

I am writing from the Atlanta airport after 3 weeks in Mozambique.  The entire team arrives today at the church about 4:30 p.m..    The English Culture Camp is one of the most spiritually significant projects in the ministry the Lord has blessed me with.

Mozambique Trip :: Entry 2

The team has finished two days of the english speaking camp. We had roughly 12 guys and 5 girls participate from Mozambique.   During the day we were able to share with the students the story of creation and the fall of man through "storying."  Sugar Creek students acted out skits and then broke up into discussion groups to help the Mozambique students learn the stories.  As students learned the stories they gained a better grasp on their english skills and were able to understand the story of God and redemption at the same time.

Mozambique Trip :: Entry 1

 The Mozambique Team from Sugar Creek has safely arrived in Mozambique.  After 20 hours of plane rides, 8 hours of car rides we made it.  Yesterday the team spent a day on the coast of the beautiful Indian ocean resting and preparing for an intense week of ministry that will be spent conducting an english speaking camp for 20+ teenagers.  God's hand has been on us already and has provided many opportunities to see Him at work.
