LYF

From the Staff Blog

Are you on mission?

On Saturday January 17th we are having an all volunteer training meeting for anyone that wants to be apart of serving in the LYF student ministry this year. This meeting is for anyone that is currently serving or wants to serve in this ministry. Whether you want to be apart of a ministry team (coffee, greet, tech, band or media) or have a desire to help lead others by being a d_group leader the opportunites are endless.

Entry 006: Is there anybody out there?

Is anyone actually reading any of these blogs?  just curious?   if so, what are your thoughts on them?  There is a link that you can click to add a comment...  tell us what these blogs are making you think about, feel, etc....

And here is a question for kudos points...  who can tell me what the image that I uploaded on this blog is from????  ;)

Entry 005: Really, Britney?

I was making my breakfast this morning and had Good Morning America on...  much like every other morning.  Every once in a while they will have news that actually means something, and peaks my interest.  Today was more of the same old stuff.  They cover the latest celebrity gossip, talk about how bad the economy is, give you helpful hints on shopping for that perfect gift, etc.  Then there was Britney Spears...  She turned 27 today!!  YAY!  And she is making a "comeback!"  DOUBLE YAY!!

............

Entry 004: This is my "full face..." ugh!

Well, today is the day....  the day where we try to set the record for the amount of food that will physically fit into our stomachs...  And yes, I have already done it.  I am actually having a hard time sitting down to type...  but, it was a glorious meal!

Take a Break

Life is busy! especailly our life here in Sugar Land. it seems as though people here are not happy unless they are going 100 different directions. of course - this is not true - but it does seem that way. well, with thanksgiving coming up in just a week it seems that we can often get in a bad habit of not taking a small break regularly and instead we go like crazy and then crash out for a big break.

What are you reading?

I used to hate reading.  Something happened to me during my last couple of years when I was in high school when I discovered why I hated reading.  I hated reading because I was reading the wrong books.  It took me a while to figure out what authors and styles I liked, but since then I have become a voracious reader.  I read books on thelogy, film and mostly things that can help me in my walk with God or help me to be a better film-maker.

Entry 003: the demon with seven friends...

The big fish tank in our office has become a big problem...........  about six months ago, I had to do some pretty big renovations.  It had become quite filthy with a type of hair algae that took over.  It was so thick that most of the rock in the tank could not be seen.  So I devoted the better part of a day working on this problem.  I removed each and every rock systematically and scrubbed the trouble algae out.  Things started looking good again!  I could see the rock, the fish were much healthier, things could not have been better.

Seasons

For the past two days, I have been in Chicago attending meetings about LEAD 222. I don't really like meetings all that much but I love being up north this time of year and experiencing fall, something we don't really have in Houston. The temperature is around 40 degrees today and the trees are full of color. It even snowed two nights ago. How awsome is that?

The secret to volunteering

I've led teams of student volunteers for many years now.  Over the years I have discovered a secret to volunteering that only a handful of students I have worked with  understand.  The secret to volunteering.....are you ready??? is to be available.  A lot of times I'll have a list of students that want to serve or be used and then I'll two students that actually have the time to serve.

Entry 002: μαθητεύω... an event OR a process?

Wednesday night at the Dulles C2 group, after I shared the saving message of Christ, two girls responded and committed their lives to Christ.  As I think about this and the huge celebration that heaven partakes in when even one person comes to saving faith, I am amazed and taken aback that the Lord is able to use someone like me.  But, I have to remember that the command in Matthew 28:19-20 is an active and ongoing command.

the rat race

often it seems like i am running the rat maze that i can't get out of it and i get tired running through it. what keeps me going? why do i keep fighting and trying when i get tired and worn down and take hits and have failures? sometimes the answer is easy - sometimes i can't find one. most times i tell myself that i am doing the work of the Lord, that He has called me to this and in the end what i am doing will have an impact and will change people and will make a difference for eternity. other times i have trouble seeing those results tangibly.

Entry 001: Fish Tank

I just set up the fish tank in my office. It is a great tank; made by Oceanic (a great tank building company) and 58 gallons. This particular aquarium has become one of the most popular ones to have because of the ratio of surface area to water volume. The conditions are prime for growing corals and establishing what they call a “reef tank.”

Intuitive Leadership

When we hear the word leadership often times it can be easy to think of someone that has a position and tells others what to do.  John Maxwell is famous for saying "Leadership is Influence" and he's right.
